Eilam Darmon

2000-2022

"Please choose love, believe in the one standing in front of you even if he doesn't believe in himself."

About Eilam

On tuesday, September 6th 2022, at 12 a.m, we received a call from Sheba Hospital and they told us to come urgentely.

When we arrived there, Eilam was no longer with us.

In 2017, Eilam was diagnosed with a rare and incurable cancer step 4. The doctors said they had no solutions and answer to the cancer: "You can try a long, difficult, and exhausting chemotherapy treatment, without a guarantee that it will cure."

During the first chimiotherapie of Eilam, all of the friends of Yoni and Rachel, came to the house. Like in a TV Show, they transformed in one day his whole room. They laid parquet, painted the walls, bought him a new bed, a lamp, a TV, a play station console, games...

He came back and discovered the amazing surprise, the support and the concern from his beloved ones.

When his hair started to fall out, all his friends decides to shave together with him.

After each chemotherapy treatment, when the doctors and nurses told us that Eilam would be bedridden for a few days, he would get up and exercise. When he could, he would come to school, to the twelfth grade, to his friends, to his beloved teacher Esther.

During the treatments, he managed to get a driver's license and finish all the High School final exams.

Eilam fought with all his might. He didn't complain, he didn't want concessions, he wanted to keep living. The treatment, which lasted more than a year, worked. The disease was in retreat. It was a miracle.

Before he got sick, Elam was a soccer player in the youth league. Every day he would train in Ra'anana. After the treatments and screenings, he was told that he would no longer be able to be a professional soccer player. The great dream of his life has exploded.

But he didn't give up: he studied to be a soccer coach at the Wingate Institute, a mental coach at the Open University and started working as a coach. He volunteered as a Madrih (guide) in the organization Lehosheet Yad to lend a hand, he was in contact with many sick children.

Elam was surrounded by love and friends, because everyone loved him. He had radiant beauty, a devastating smile, rare humor, and above all he had a special way of approaching people. With respect, tenderness, interest.

In the way he fought cancer, he inspired many people. He always maintained optimism, a good mood, a love for life and others. He had plans until the last moment: he wrote a screenplay about children with cancer who escape from the hospital to Paris. He founded a start-up on sports training. He met the great father, went to London, Paris, Amsterdam. He skied, traveled the country with his friends, listened to music and sang all the time.

In August 2021 the disease returned. It was decided to try to get the best treatment, because of the global specialist in New York. He was there with his father.

He knew a lot of people. Everyone liked him.

As a child Eilam lived four years in Paris with his family, on a mission. After that he lived in Givatayim and Binyamina, which he loved so much. Everywhere, from an early age, he had lots of friends. All the mothers fell in love with him, and he was a true gentleman with each one.

On April 24th, 2000, a cute, beautiful, beloved baby was born at Wolfson Hospital.

Elam Darmon.

“I am Rachel, his mother, writing these words, and I believe it happened, that he is no longer with us.

I am still waiting for the door to open and that I will hear his voice, his communicative laugh. I will hug him tight.”

Rachel Darmon

Eilam left us a diary full of insights. Here is one of them:

“No matter what... against whom... in what situation...

The love in me will always come out. Or at least I'll try. Through manners, support, laughter, hugs.

Sometimes through silence...

Because if not, hatred will come out.

But I, in my opinion, I succeed and will continue the task.”
